Essential oils are powerful and effective when they are pure and potent. Without purity and potency, the uses and benefits of essential oils weaken and the oils are less likely to fulfill individual needs. Unfortunately, many oils available for purchase contain contaminants and filler substances that diminish the purity, potency, and effectivity of the essential oil. doTERRA’s mission is to bring a new standard of essential oils to the world by producing highly pure and potent essential oils so that anyone can experience their extraordinary benefits. doTERRA ensures the quality of their oils by putting each batch of essential oils through the CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® protocol. This protocol includes a series of rigorous tests that determine the contents of each oil. If the oils are found potent and pure, then they are packaged and sold so that all can experience the life-changing benefits of essential oils.
Juniper Berry Oil Uses and Benefits
Fun Fact
It was said that if you dreamed of gathering juniper berries in winter, you would prosper. It is also noted that the berries of a common juniper signified honor or the birth of a boy.1
Plant Description
The common juniper, Juniperus communis, is an evergreen conifer tree that can grow up to 10 meters high and can live for as long as 200 years. The tree’s bark is grey-brown while the twigs of the tree are reddish brown. The leaves of the common juniper are needle-like with prickly points and are green in color. The tree also produces male and female flowers. The male flowers are small and yellow and grow near the tip of the twigs whereas the female flowers are green and eventually evolve into the purple fruit of the tree. The fruit is a berry-like cone that is fleshy and aromatic.2 doTERRA Juniper Berry essential oil is extracted from the berry of the common juniper plant.

The Unity of Yoga and Essential Oils
Contributed by Brooke Perkins
Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India thousands of years ago. The original meaning of the word yoga is believed to be “unity,” which is key to the overall goal of the practice: pushing one’s consciousness toward transcendence. Since the beginning, yoga has evolved and changed in many ways and throughout the years research has reaffirmed that this practice not only benefits physical health, but mental and emotional health as well.
Yoga has proven to be beneficial because of its three main components: asanas (physical postures), pranayama (breathing technique), and meditation. Oftentimes when we exercise we forget to incorporate these components. For instance, even though we are constantly breathing, it is not necessarily something we are consciously thinking about. In yoga, breath is the life of the practice; each movement is associated with a deep inhale or exhale. It is this state of active breathing that has been found to be highly beneficial, especially when it comes to our brain wave activity.
Modern day research has shown that yoga can help us manage stress, but why is that exactly? Studies have shown that yoga has the ability to decrease salivary cortisol, which is a known stress hormone1,2. Additional studies have also found that yoga-based relaxation training can help stabilize the function of the autonomic nervous system3, the system that controls our breathing, heartbeat, and digestive processes. Yoga also plays a significant role in decreasing heart rate4,5. One study demonstrated that not only is breathing beneficial for overall brain wave activity but so is meditation and posture-based poses. These yoga practices have been found to stimulate the amygdala and frontal cortex6, which house our memory and emotional reactions. As you can see all of these benefits can have a positive effect on our physical, mental, and emotional
well-being.
Now that we’ve learned about some of the science behind yoga, it’s time to understand how essential oils can relate to this ancient practice. While modern day science has yet to thoroughly ascertain the benefits of essential oils and yoga when combined, there are still many benefits to be received. Much like yoga, the use of essential oils aims to support the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. Research has shown that essential oils not only provide emotional benefits but physical benefits as well. There are several studies that speak to the abilities of essential oils to help reduce anxious feelings7-10 and provide an overall sense of well-being. Other research studies have shown that they can help maintain concentration11,12. Lastly, research has suggested that essential oils help promote feelings of clear breathing and open airways13.
As you can see, yoga and essential oils easily go hand-in-hand. You can, and should, enhance your current practice by using the two together. So whether you are a brand new or seasoned yogi, everyone can benefit from using essential oils during their practice.
Here are some tips on oils to include in your practice:

Days For Girls
dōTERRA International recently made donations as part of an ongoing relationship with the nonprofit organization, Days for Girls, by providing monetary assistance and feminine hygiene kits that will be used to help women and girls around the world. Days for Girls is a grassroots nonprofit that helps girls around the world gain access to feminine hygiene supplies, and provides education about proper hygiene.
Along with donations that will help the corporate efforts of Days for Girls, doTERRA also recently made a donation to assist the Utah chapter specifically. Representatives from doTERRA often travel internationally, so the company has made a habit of transporting feminine hygiene kits during these trips, and distributing them to communities in need. Aside from transporting the kits, doTERRA also provides classes that are designed to educate women and girls on feminine hygiene, and teach them how to properly use the kits.
Girls and women who don’t have access to sanitary supplies often miss school or opportunities for income, because they are unable to go about their daily tasks. Young girls may miss up to two months of school throughout the year, and the loss of income for older women only worsens the cycle of poverty in areas that are already struggling.1
Not only does a lack of sanitary supplies cause girls and women throughout the world to miss out on learning and income, but it can be potentially threatening to their health. Without proper hygiene, infections like candida or yeast infections will develop.2 Other infections like urinary tract infections (UTI’s) are also common when bacteria develops due to lack of proper hygiene.3 Therefore, greater access to feminine hygiene products will not only allow girls to avoid missing school and activities that provide income, but this access also protects them from uncomfortable and infectious diseases like UTI’s. Many girls and women do not have access to good medicine or healthcare, so they may suffer for long periods of time with conditions like UTI’s and other bacterial infections, due to lack of proper care.
The Days for Girls organization has reached women and girls in over 85 countries, across 6 continents. doTERRA’s donations of resources and supplies will help the organization as they continue to serve communities that need access to proper feminine hygiene. doTERRA Makes donation to Support Mothers of Children with Heart Disease at a Weekend Retreat
Nothing can prepare a mother for the devastation that comes with the loss of a child. Volunteers at the Hayden’s Heart Inc. organization understand the reality of the grief associated with losing a child, as the group specializes in offering comfort and support to mothers who have lost a child to heart diseases and defects. doTERRA recently donated to Hayden’s Heart, providing products that were included in gift baskets at a retreat for mothers who have lost a child as a result of heart defects.
The retreat, “Healing of the Heart – A Retreat for Mamas of Angels” aimed to provide mothers with a support system to help them cope with the pain of losing a child. Hayden’s Heart often puts on events and activities that support families who have lost a child to Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) and other heart diseases. They also focus on raising awareness about CHD, and helping families who are currently striving to keep a child with CHD alive. Healing Hands Helps Fund a Trip to Nicaragua for Natural Doctors International
In 2015, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation made a donation to the Natural Doctors International organization to help fund a trip to their medical clinic in Nicaragua. Natural Doctors International (NDI) is a collaborative organization of professionals that help bring health services to people in need through education, service, and research. The majority of NDI’s work has taken place in Nicaragua.
The matching contribution donation from doTERRA helped fund one of many trips made to Nicaragua by NDI. Much of the organization’s work has taken place on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua. Because Ometepe is so remote, most of the people have very limited access to healthcare—leaving them vulnerable to viruses and infections. NDI has established an integrative health clinic on the island to help people get access to healthcare, medicine, and supplies.
The people of Ometepe struggle with a variety of health issues, and programs like those of NDI allow them to get the care they desperately need. One in every five children in Nicaragua suffer from chronic malnutrition, and 10% of children under five are underweight, with 20% struggling with stunted growth.1
Malnutrition often leaves individuals more susceptible to viruses and attacks to the immune system. Malnutrition is the primary cause of immunodeficiency worldwide, with infants, children, teens, and the elderly among the most affected. Because of the tendency to have a weakened immune system when malnourished, there is a strong connection between malnutrition and viruses or infections. Five infectious diseases account for more than one half of deaths in children ages five and under—pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, measles, and AIDS.2
Along with malnutrition, the people of Nicaragua struggle with high pregnancy rates, lack of effective water and sanitation services, and limited access to basic medications. Natural Doctors International strives to provide proper healthcare through short and long term health programs and community enhancement projects. With the help of volunteers, NDI provides health services for Nicaraguans who truly need them.

doTERRA Donation Supports Entrepreneurs in Developing Countries
Insanitation, viruses, and lack of education can result from poverty, but Mentors International is giving microloans to impoverished entrepreneurs to fight these effects.
The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation is contributing to Mentors International’s vision. For years, doTERRA has donated to Mentors International to help them give microloans to impoverished entrepreneurs in developing countries. These microloans will help businesses flourish and increase sustainable living among entrepreneurs and their families.
Since 1990, Mentors International has been successfully assisting impoverished entrepreneurs to get out of the poverty cycle and build their businesses. Many people in developing countries take to the streets to sell food or household items in hopes of raising enough money to support themselves and their families. However, even though they may work 80 hour weeks, the money that they initially borrow from local loan sharks have high interest rates for very small loans, making it difficult for business owners to pay back their loans and still provide the essentials for their families. This problem is the very beginning of a large downward slope.
Because the local business owners have astronomical interest rates that are difficult to pay back, business owners cannot afford basic needs such as toiletries, clean water, food, and proper healthcare. The lack of nutrition and sanitation leads to increased risks of viruses such as diarrhea, hepatitis A, and typhoid fever. These viruses can also lead to an increased weight loss which can threaten lives, especially the lives of children. Poor living conditions, a lack of nutrition, and viruses can stunt learning and working capabilities which make it difficult for children to get an education and will sorely affect their working abilities in adulthood.
The founders of Mentors International are determined to stop this repeating cycle, and they are doing it by giving impoverished entrepreneurs small microloans with affordable interest rates. These microloans help business owners to purchase tools and raw materials, increase product variety and quality, and hire employees. Mentors International also provides training and consulting services so entrepreneurs can make better business and financial decisions.
Mentors International is finding great success with their program. The repayment rates of the business owners have been uncommonly high, and there has been a significant difference in the quality of businesses and living conditions for these entrepreneurs.

Online to Offline Business Building Tips for Teams
The key to building an online business is converting prospects into customers. In order to be successful at doing this you must have a good value proposition (why someone should purchase your product from you) and you must get your product in front of as many people as possible. So its a numbers game and it takes time and some money to get your product seen and sold online. But don’t worry, if you don’t have any money to spend on marketing online you can still build your business by putting the time into it.
As relationship marketers, we have a unique opportunity to leverage our downline and up line to help get our product seen by more people. It is important that you create a unique value proposition in the form of branding and value added services whenever possible. For instance just saying “I’m a mom that loves essential oils” is not as effective as saying “I’m a mom that specializes in helping other moms learn how to use essential oils to take care of their children”. And better still would be, “I’m a Certified Holistic Health Coach that specializes in showing my clients how to use essential oils to promote faster healing”. The more specific and targeted your branding is, the more likely you will be able to attract the kind of customers you’re looking for.
In order to build exposure online we need to develop clout by being relevant, engaging, and responsive to our prospective customer base. We do this in various ways. Here are some tips and general guidelines.
This may seem overwhelming and complicated but its really not. We’re here to help so don’t hesitate to reach out and ask for guidance and support. Remember “teamwork makes the dream work”. We have a system for accomplishing all this and if you’re serious about building your essential oils business online you’ll want to get plugged in to it. So call us to get started.

In order to build exposure online we need to develop clout by being relevant, engaging, and responsive to our prospective customer base. We do this in various ways. Here are some tips and general guidelines.
- Build a personal or business brand (have fun with this be creative)
- Create original content - posts, articles, videos, quizzes that link to your website and/or facebook page
- Promote your content in posts, ads, blogs, and with affiliate partners (team members and others)
- Support other team members (especially downline) by liking, sharing and recommending their brand and products/services (don’t worry about competition among your team members - there’s enough business for everybody). By supporting each other in this way everyone will get more exposure and have more opportunities to convert prospects to customers.
- Have a well rehearsed pitch when you get a prospect on the phone who is ready to talk about how your product can help them.
- Decide if you want to market only essential oils or your product and/or service with essential oils and if you also want to market the business opportunity. Be clear in your messaging and process if you’re doing all three. I recommend keeping the business opportunity separate from the products and services.
